Monday..Monday..

Well, The Cardinals didn't pull it off. It was so darn close. I thought for sure they might have it there at the end but the Steelers were the better team. Oh well. It was a good game to watch.

Back to work this morning. I walked in and we only had 9 kids on our list. (We keep a list on the computer of our daily patients in house). It was a nice surprise as just a few weeks ago we had over 30. Our rounds were done by 8am which never happens.

There was suppose to be a major surgery today. We were removing a 10 year girls entire colon. She has ulcerative colitis and is not responding to steroids. Currently she is on the strongest medication there is and still have ~15-20 bloody stools a day. (Shelly aren't you glad you got alittle relief from Dan Active :). Anyways, on Saturday an anonymous letter showed up at the hospital saying that they felt her mom was making all of this up and should be worked up for Munchhausen by proxy. This is a syndrome when parents fake illnesses of their kids for attention. I would have never pegged this mother as one, but what do I know. Anyways, after receiving this letter, my attending was like, I cant take this girls colon out until we are sure this isn't the case. Now how she could cause colitis of the entire colon is beyond me but never the less you don't want to do a life altering surgery for no reason. Anyways, the chief medical officer but a stop to the surgery at 8:45 this morning and she was scheduled to go at 9:00am. Needless to say, the family was MAD. It was a long morning of stressed attending's with a family that was threatening law suit with every other sentence. Aww the joys of working in health care. Shes on the schedule for tomorrow. We shall see what happens!

I only worked 8 hours today which is nothing less than amazing. It might have helped that I had to leave for a Dr's appt but what can you do. I actually got to go to the gym tonight and take a step class. My body will hate me tomorrow!
