I got off work EARLY. YEAH!!! Well, really I still worked 7 1/2 hours, but I left work at 2pm. I was able to come home, take an hour nap and then go to the gym. Aww, what it must be like to work normal hours!!! Its a tease though because Im on call again tomorrow night so no leaving early tomorrow.
My little "dude" that I talked about in my last post is so darn cute. He is on contact precautions which means he cant leave his room. This morning he was standing at the door flirting and trying to talk to anyone who walked past. Hes such a flirt. His diagnosis changed today, still cancer, but a much worse prognosis. Poor little guy.
I received a call last night for a girl, 10y/o, with abdominal pain from another hospital. We are the only pediatric surgeons in our hospital system (there are less that 10 peds surgeons in AZ) so any child that needs surgery has to be transferred to us. Anyway they send her over, no big deal. I go to see her this morning and open her chart. I had already been told over the phone what her lab worked showed and CT scan, etc. Everything was negative, so I wasnt that impressed. Basically the hospital that she was seen at is one step from horrible and didnt know what to do with her. OK i digress, anyway, I open her chart and see an ultrasound that shows a pregnancy, 6 weeks and 6 days. I quickly check the name and was like OMG, hello, vital information, why wasnt I told this. It in fact is her name. She is 10 YEARS OLD PEOPLE. I call the nurse over and was like umm..whats this about. She says oh ya, read the ER docs notes, basically the radiologist at this lovely place read it first, then when the ER doctor questioned it, said oops, i meant that it is just an ovary with a cyst. UM HELLO. Thankfully, she had negative pregnancy tests. So I had a quick jolt this morning.
OK, well Im off to bed. Only 2 more days left of the week. And it was 100 degrees today :)

Wow, that last story was exciting. It was liking reading a story and you can't read fast enough. I guess the moral of these stories is always question your doctor!!!!
