We picked up the pottery today. I cant believe the difference after it was "cooked". I think mine turned out pretty cute!

Before

After

Last night I was on call. It was a long night oh course. It never fails 30 min to an hour after I fall asleep the pager goes off, no matter what time I go to sleep. I dropped my pager this morning on accident about 5:30am. It flew into pieces but I put it back together and it looked like it was working. Well I got to the hospital and they said they were trying to page me but I never responded, i.e. I never got it. I was like, darn I should have tried dropping it earlier in the night because the darn pager sure had no problem going off at 2:30am.

We had a little 4 week old come in. He has pyloric stenosis. This is a condition when the end of the stomach towards the intestine becomes obstructed/blocked. They projective vomit across the room and become very dehydrated. It is a fun surgery because it only takes us about 20 min and the kids do awesome. Afterwards we don't let them eat for about 6 hrs then slowly advance feeds to full amount. The vomiting is usually cured. Parents are so relieved. My little man that came in overnight last night was so darn cute. He had been vomiting for 1 week, projectile over the weekend. Mom was Spanish speaking only but very sweet and you could tell she was exhausted.

Last night I was down in the ER with a little girl who had appendicitis. All of the sudden I see all the nurses start moving around quickly and moving patients to the waiting room, etc. They are getting a "rapid response" which means a kid is not breathing on its own. The Paramedics finally wheel in a 7 year old, found unresponsive, not sure how long he was down for. He was a kid with ceral palsy and other issues. Mom had checked on him 1 hour earlier. Anyways, they bring him in and our doing CPR. His little body was already blue. He had been in asystole for 35 minutes. For you non medical people that is the flat line you see on TV shows. They were basically just running the code until they got to the hospital for a doctor to pronounce him dead. The mother came in shortly after and was standing watching them work. Finally they took her away to a room and called it and then brought her son to her to hold. Shortly after the step father walked in. Im not sure what happened to the little guy but it was sad. I have never seen a code run before or for that matter CPR performed. Later I found out that this family had lost their older daughter (age 21) and the mothers brother in a car accident in Jan. Also, 6 weeks ago they had a baby who coded at birth and is severely brain damaged and still up in our NICU. About an hour after all this happened I saw them walking the hall up in the NICU. Sure makes you appreciate how lucky you are.

My roommate and I are still looking for houses. We went and looked at 2 this evening. We have been so spoiled the last two years with this big house. Since there will only be 2 of us next year we will have to get a much smaller house. We werent impressed tonight. We have two more to look at tomorrow night so hopefully they go better!
