My First Post

YEAH! Im finally starting a blog! I thought this would be fun to keep everyone updated on my oh so exciting life out here in Arizona! I have been wanting to do this for awhile but never took the time. I decided it would be something fun to look back on in years to come.

Lately it seems all I have been doing is working! Dont get me wrong, for the most part I love my job, but I'm exhausted. Last week I put it 75 hours. I was on call Friday and Saturday. It was technically my weekend on call but one of other PA's needed next Saturday off so I switched Sunday for next Saturday. This was my first official weekend on call by myself and I am glad to say I made it through!!! I still have a TON to learn but everyday I think I feel alittle more comfortable.

We have been so busy at the hospital. We currently have two peds overflow units open and still not enough room for all the kiddos. Most of the kids are sick with respiratory stuff (RSV) junk however I think the month of January has been abscess and appendicitis month. We always have a pretty good number of these cases but I swear this month we have had a minimum of two a day. One of the doctors last week was calling our service "Pus are us". The little ones get abscess', most often on their butts, that have to be drained. We take them to the OR, put them to sleep, and basically pop the big zit and pack it full of gauze. It takes longer to get them to sleep then to do our part. On adults this can be done in the doctors office or ER with local anesthesia, but kids wont sit still.

I'm headed to bed. Tomorrows another day of fun at the hospital!!!
